What is happening where?

Mapews connects reported events to places so readers can move from a headline to a map and then back to the original source. It is an orientation layer for current events, not a replacement for reporting or emergency services.

Method

Structured alerts and reviewed news records are normalized into short, bounded event entries. A point keeps its provider or reviewed location basis; broad or ambiguous claims are left unmapped instead of receiving an arbitrary coordinate.

Sources

The collection includes USGS earthquake data, NASA EONET natural-event data, GDACS alerts, and reviewed publisher feeds and APIs. Each published event keeps a source link for readers to inspect.

Freshness & corrections

Structured feeds are collected within bounded lookback windows; reviewed news is added through explicit runs. Titles, times, categories, locations, and links can be amended or unpublished when the original record shows a problem.
